In Indonesia, curriculum 2013 demands students to be more
productive. Many ways to make them more active and productive. Some people
think ways to make students more productive is to give them a lot of homework.
Studying 15 subjects means that students will receive a love of homework.
That's a little ineffective because a lot of homework is not always good for
the students.
As the the first reason, students already have more than eight hours
to study in school. They start school at seven and go home at three to
four. Eight hours of school should be
enough to learn anything. If they are given homework for each subject, it means
that they should spend their time for hours at night to complete their
homework. That would be very burdensome for some students who don't have
the conducive time to doing it, such as
those who join the course or have to help their parents at home.
Secondly, a lot of homework can make students become stress. After
school time, some students should join the course, join extracurricular, or help
their parents at home. It will be more difficult if the next day they have
daily exams at school. They must really work hard to get it done correctly and
they won't have time to relax their minds and bodies, so finally they get
stress because the teacher will surely ask them to immediately collect it or
they will be labeled as the lazy one.
Besides, homework doesn't provide assurance that students will
develop well. Too much homework can encourage cheating because students end up
copying off one another in an attempt to
finish all their homework. In other hand, students need for having a social and
family time, both are very important to
improve the quality of their lives.
In conclusion, give the students a lot of homework is not always
good for students, although it may have some value for them. But, remember
students students are human that can feel tired and stress too. I think the
homework will be more fun to be resolved if the teacher use the good method,
such as using technology. The lesson in class should be more effective than
before so the students are really know and feel interesting with the subjects.
The teacher shouldn't give a lot of homework which will only put pressure on
students. We can learn the education system in developed countries like
Finland. The students in Finland are not
given a lot of homework, so they learn with pleasure and without pressure.
